Teacher researcher
Cochran-Smith & Lytle1993; 1999 define teacher research
as an intentional and systematic inquiry of teachers with the goal of getting
insights into teaching and learning, being reflective practitioners, effecting
changes in the classroom or school, and improving the lives of children. A
Teacher researcher is a teacher who is conscious about the present world but is
also curious about the future and how they can equip their learners to be the
best version of themselves and be able to function in the world after school. A
teacher researcher is one who is always on their feet looking for information
in order to better their teaching to benefit their learners. It is important
for a teacher to be a researcher because we live in an ever changing world and
also living through crisis, past and present. For example when we were going
through covid-19, a teacher researcher was needed in order to find ways to
teach effectively in that context and develop and enhance skills that are
needed in the context of covid-19. A teacher who researches means that the
teacher is always conscious of the state of the world and what skills and
knowledge are needed as times and context change. With this information, the
teacher is able to equip learners with skills and knowledge that will help them
thrive in society.
